The NORTHSTAR radio has a high,med,and low dimmer switch, put this switch on the low position to get to the bands N-1 thru N-8, you will notice this on the channel readout when the switch is in low. After you have choosen a band,put the switch back on med or high and then you will notice the channels 1 thru 40 back again, put the radio on the channel you wish to talk on and your there.
